Learning and development (L&D)

While learning is gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught or experiencing something, development is the act or process of using or applying knowledge.

Learning is an organized activity aimed at imparting information and instructions to improve the employee’s performance and/or help them attain the required level of knowledge or skill.

Development is a way to enable staff to operate at a higher level, e.g., become more effective and efficient by improving self-confidence, self-sufficiency, initiative, creativity, and problem-solving capabilities.

The process of ensuring that the skills, knowledge, abilities, and performance of the workforce meet the current and future organizational needs. Entails formal training and informal learning activities, as well as a career development program.
