Foundation Model
Foundation model refers to a large-scale, pre-trained artificial intelligence (AI) model built on vast and diverse datasets designed to serve as a general-purpose base for a wide range of downstream tasks. These models – such as GPT, BERT or CLIP – are trained using self-supervised learning and can be fine-tuned or adapted for specific applications like text generation, translation, image recognition, or question answering. Foundation models exhibit strong generalization capabilities, enabling faster development of AI solutions across industries. They form the backbone of many generative AI systems and enterprise AI platforms, offering scalability, adaptability, and efficiency in building intelligent applications.
